Practical Ecology employs a medium-sized team of specialists in
Native Vegetation. Our particular strength is our detailed
knowledge of the relationship between Native Vegetation and
Planning Laws, based on considerable hands-on experience.

- Flora & Fauna Surveys: Identifying and
documenting all species of plants and animals. This can be as
simple as a couple of hours onsite, or as involved as an all-hours
presence, depending on your needs and the particulars of the
site.

- Net Gain Analysis: Current legislation often
requires that any negative impacts on a property -- such as for the
purposes of subdivision or construction works -- are documented and
offset by suitable positive improvements (such as new plantings or
the reservation of existing lands). Practical Ecology offers
particular expertise in minimising losses and in putting forward
mitigations acceptable to local governments and DSE. While
our code of
conduct and the law requires that we preserve native vegetation
first and foremost, we are also adept at facilitating the best
possible development opportunities.

Habitat-Hectare Analysis (HHA): An important
part of Net Gain Analysis, HHA is an industry-standard methodology
for expressing vegetation qualities in quantifiable ways.

Land Management Plans: Either as part of a proposal
to council or as stand-alone assistance with acreage management,
Practical Ecology is skilled in developing Land Management
Plans that ensure the least amount of energy and money inputs, and
produce the greatest outcomes for native vegetation.
